From Knucklehead to Businessman: James Tucker

“What you see is what you get.” This is how one of Oryx Nashville’sSenior Corporate Trainers, James Tucker, describes himself. Well, we sat down with James one-on-one to see exactly what we get.
So, James, where are you from? I was born and raised in Chicago, IL What were you like growing up? I was a knucklehead for sure; I was known for pestering teachers. Give me an example of when you pestered a teacher I remember a time in Chemistry class on a test day, another student sarcastically asked the teacher if he had to take the test. The teacher smirked and said, “If you have a 100-grade average, then you don’t have to take it. Do you have a 100 average?” The student shook his head. Continuing to pass out the tests, the teacher made her way to me. She placed the test on my desk, I wrote my name at the top, and I slid my test to the front my desk and said, “Done.” Puzzled, the teacher asked, “What?” I replied, “Well, you said told that guy that he didn’t have to take the test if he had a 100 a…

Oryx Nashville's Top Tips for Upcoming Grads

As graduation approaches and you begin the search for the initial step in your career path, it is critical to get a head start. Oryx Nashville has composed four simple tips that will get you ahead of the competition and off and running towards your career.
Ditch your teenage email. Get a professional email address: it's hard to change email addresses; we get it. From forwarding emails importing contacts, it's not a simple process. However, your address shown at the top of your resumes is not impressive.
Ory Nashville's recommendation: Get a Gmail address and using your first and last name in it.
Make sure your social media presence is on point. Employers are using social media to find out what type of person you are. So, think from their point of view about the photos you have posted from last summer. If your potential employer saw them, would they be put off? You may also want to Google yourself (as silly as it may sound), and you will be amazed how …

Meet Senior Corporate Trainer Ashley

Our team members at Oryx Nashville are the reason for our success. When an individual like Senior Corporate Trainer Ashley joins our team, we are reminded of how fortunate we are to work with Nashville’s top talent! Born in St. Louis but raised in Belleville, IL, Ashley grew up with her parents and her older brother. During her high school years, she played flute in her high school’s band and enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. Upon graduating, Ashley was accepted into Tennessee State University in Nashville as a Business Administration major. She had visited Nashville before with a friend and fell in love with the city, so she was all for living there! Ashley enjoyed her time at Tennessee State, but she soon learned how expensive college was and decided to pursue another opportunity: she joined the Air Force Reserve. One of Ashley favorite parts of being in the Air Force Reserve was the opportunity it gave her to travel and see new parts of the country. First, Ashley mo…
